This program, entirely taught in English, aims to offer an academic specialization which fulfil the needs of the different organizations of the Art Markets. It seeks to develop students' skills of managing projects and investments, as well as of marketing, valuation and negotiation in the arts sector.

The Master represents an opportunity for interdisciplinary specialization with both theoretical and practical components which correspond to the requirements of a multi-faceted professional area. The MA in Art Markets is the fruit of a collaboration between Iscte and the School of Arts and Humanities (University of Lisbon), establishing the intersection of Management and Art History.

This program is rated in the 18th position among the Best Masters Ranking 2022 in the area of Art Market. This program is also part of the Erasmus Mundus consortium on Managing Art & Cultural Heritage in Global Marketsbringing together the expertise of five universities: Iscte, University of Lisbon, University of Glasgow, Erasmus University Rotterdam and Institut d’Etudes Supérieures des Arts in Paris.

To attend to the strong international component of this sector two trips abroad are organized for the purpose of observing events relevant to international art markets, namely art fairs and/or biannuals.*

*Travel expenses not included.

This program is designed both for individuals already working in the art markets as well as to recent graduates from different areas of study, including Art History, Fine Arts. Law, Anthropology, Sociology, Conservation and Restoration, Management and Economics.

Since its creation in 2007, this master's has contributed to the training of many professionals working in the art markets in Portugal. As directors of this program we are proud in seeing our former students working at auction houses, galleries, antiques galleries, artists' studios and museums, signifying that the value of our academic offer is recognized by this industry.
